EFL Cup – Ipswich Town vs Arsenal – Cup run begins

We could have done the double last year had we not lost to Man City in the finals. The loss to Man City was a disappointing one for us. Nico O’Reilly scored twice and ruined some of the fun that was about to come later. We also lost to PSG in the Champions League finals, and missed the treble. The getaway was that you shouldn’t lose finals but to learn from those losses, we must reach there again.

And the journey begins today. We are visiting Ipswich Town today in the third round of Carabao Cup / EFL cup. There are some good teams competing this time – Chelsea, Bournemouth, Sunderland, Palace, Newcastle have already made it to the next round. The fate of Arsenal, Man Utd, City, Liverpool and Spurs will be decided today.

We are unbeaten so far this season. 4 Premier League wins and a CL win so far, and we can add another one today. And it’s the second last game before we go into the international break, so the manager is under no duress to rest players. Though, I would like to see the likes of Max Dowman getting some game time today, Mikel likely prefers to go with the best fit XI.

Wenger used these cups to develop academy players and he would find some gems often. He invested his time and also cost the club a few points in doing so. But we are way past the development phase and we can spend 60m on players that would be second fiddle to Saliba and Rice, so don’t expect anything interesting. The best we can do is, WIN, and move on to the next round.

Every trophy matters. We have the best squad in the Premier League and we have already won the Premier League. The next target is to win more, and not just settle with the title this season.

In the team news, we would probably see Kepa back in the goals. There’s so much to do for Raya, so he will get some rest. We can also see a midfield of MLS and Guimaraes, with Merino in the Odegaard role. Madueke is a candidate to get a start and we might see Eze over Tzolis. Gyokeres could also get his start. I don’t care frankly who starts and if he is fatigued, we have got at least 2 players for each position and that removes the injury anxiety for me.

That’s all for today, see you during the game.

Passing is slow, often awry. Leeds playing a high line but we’re getting nobody in behind. Really shit. Leeds improved but nothing special. Look the most likely to score. Cunteta.

If you were given an unlimited budget to build a team that played perfect crab football at least 8 of our starting line up would be at the top of your list.

No fucking joy – whatsoever – about this game. Post title honeymoon is very over. Arteta sucks the joy out of supporting this club.

“Arteta sucks the joy out of supporting this club”

The only thing I don’t understand about the above comment is how anyone cannot feel the same.

Raya saving the bacon as usual .
So the pig wolks off with 400 grand a week !

Based on that, I can’t be sure we’re going to win this. Rice and Skelly look fucked and there are too many weak links all over the park.

    Now sack the cunt

    Saw it coming .
    Leeds gets a goal.
Their players just had to stretch themselves which they were not doing hitherto

Those weak links are part of over a Billion £ spent.

Here’s my Man City song, to the tune of the ‘olé, olé, olé’ one.

You’re the scum of English football
    You’ve lied to everyone
    Go back to Abu Dhabi
    You dirty cheating cunts

    You’ve got no fucking trophies
    Your fans do not exist
    Man City’s utter poison
    You won’t be fucking missed

    Olé Olé Olé etc.

Hoping to hear something similar at Anfield tomorrow. Anyone else fancy having a go?

Enjoy it ….I did , that’s why we are champions but what it shows is that we are not as good some think we are.
Obviously a little rusty after the break compared to Leeds who didn’t have as many players travelling all round the world over the last 3 weeks..
As I said prior to the game , it will be our bench that will decide the outcome, Bruno was exceptional when he came on and Rice upped his game with the arrival of Bruno..

Agreed. Better final 30 minutes but overall a mega shit show.

there was no way I was getting up at 7:30 in the fucking morning to watch our basically unwatchable side…Leeds biggest mistake, minus the choice of tactics, was scoring too early…not to mention they got in the way of themselves inside our box on several occasions…tbf the most logical result would have been a draw, but good on Bruno for potting the winner…looks like he’s trying to use the fanbase in order to get some more playing time, which was undoubtedly why he went to them following his tally…good on him as he knows how much our MIT loves fake news narratives…surprised he didn’t get a yellow, but happy that he didn’t…if this is what playing by the rules gets you I wish we cheated the system a bit more…too soon?…Cheers

Aston Villa playing with shirts sponsored by ‘Visit Rwanda’.

Fucking sports washing wankers …you’d never see a classy club like Arsenal sponsored by a bunch of murdering bastards. Oh hang on…

  18. Kroenkephobe

You did the right thing Vieira. It was thoroughly fucking miserable, even more so ‘en vivo’.

I think Manure v Spuds will be more interesting.

I see Daniel Farke is complaining about the officials during yesterday’s game and I think he has every right to as they received 5 bookings in a match that was physical but never dirty.
This brings me back to the point that I made prior to the game in that officials have a home bias which makes it very difficult for the away team to be as physical as to when they play at home..
It happens in most games unfortunately and I can’t see it changing anytime soon as it is very difficult for a referee not to be influenced by the home crowd.
There were no wrong big decisions in the game because but it is usual for the away team to pick up soft cards which then means that players who have picked up the booking will have to tread carefully, meaning they have to play with a less physical edge to their game.
Arsenal were renowned for picking up soft bookings and red cards up until the last 4 or 5 years , Arteta changed all that and now we are considered one of the fairest teams in Europe..
