Carpe diem!

A literal meaning would say – Enjoy yourself while you have the chance, but it applies to the current state of Arsenal. If you are one of the miserable souls who has seen too much of mediocrity at Arsenal Football Club that sitting 5 points ahead of Manchester City led by one of the best managers ever, is not enough to hope for a title push then my friend you need to have better expectations.

More than one-third of season is over, we were playing some sublime football before the world cup and sitting on top of the table. If you say we will drop points, so will City. If you say we will be plagued by injuries, so will City.

And if you decide to bring Haaland into the conversation, I would say we have a January window coming and with Jesus out for couple of months (hopefully he will return before that), let us bring in someone who can give us what Jesus gave… and some more.

Our next 3 games are winnable, West Ham (H), Brighton (A), New Castle (H). Hopefully our players won’t be hungover from World Cup and continue with the performance. Win these 3 and we go in confidence at Sh*te Hart Lane and that’s winnable too. Say what you want, but the players have been brilliant and we have a manager in his 4th season having replaced everyone except Xhaka.

Lets do it, stars have aligned so far. Jesus injury is a concern but we can get a competition if Eddie can’t do the job. 3 strikers are not too much, we are going to qualify for Champions League anyway and I don’t see Jesus playing mid-week against better opponents alongside Premier League. 2 games a week among 3 players is okay, Balogun can wait.

Ornstein has reported that we are pretty much in conversation for 21-year old winger – Mykhaylo Mudryk. We have been looking for these kind of profiles from last couple of seasons and are in a better situation that we were in Ozil-era. I don’t mind it but hey, we need a striker first. We have enough cover on wings, ESR is coming back who can play if needed. If you have money, get a Partey competition and a CF. If you want to add Mbappe I have absolutely no problem but lets not make a Ben White of situation at Wings.

My consolation to English fans, it must have been hard but that’s football. Portugal is out, so the Cristiano v Messi final dream dies. I will love to see Messi lifting it, just because the legend deserves it. Hopefully you enjoy the semi-finals and finals and I will have enough time to keep LiR running.

Have a nice day! Lets keep our expectations high and hope higher. This late-Wenger defeatist mentality needs to go away, there is always the next season but you can only win this year for now.

  1. Hoopah,

I’m assuming you are sitting on the beach side with a corona watching on a big screen ๐Ÿ˜…

I’m in the wrong state here ๐Ÿ˜

  2. You are close. Sitting about 400 m from the sea with KFC and Budweiser Magnum. That’s my favourite. Big screen to catch the culprits and hanky panky

Hi Lads. Glad you’re enjoying the game. It would be brilliant if this led to a raising of football’s profile in India. I’m still smarting from that farrago of a game in Cardiff yesterday. I hope it’ll abate by the time we play the Irons. I didn’t see the Juve game but I gather it wasn’t one of Eddie Unket’s best in an Arsenal Jersey. Enjoy your evening.

  4. Krienkephobe
Saw an 8 min long highlight of Juventus game. Arsenal dominated both halves, particularly the first. Shooting was mostly at goal posts though. We did shoot 2 OG though, Xhaka starring in the first ๐Ÿ˜‚

  5. This game is France’s to lose. They should make drastic changes. Only Griezmann is playing well. Looks like they’ll lose, so no harm in trying to put Argentina out of joint.

  6. Substitutions lined up ready to come in. Suddenly France players got adrenaline flowing. Game become intense

  7. If the first Argentina goal was fair, then kick on Thuran shins definitely was a penalty.
    Ref is fushy

  8. Referring hasn’t been any good this cup. Mbappe you beauty, anyone’s game but France favorite now.

Can’t see happening twice for Argentine. Netherlands and now France.

  9. Fat ref has given a card to Giroud on the bench. Meanwhile France players being felled like trees in the Amazon under Bolsonaro

  10. Taylor was supposed to officiate this match. Can’t figure how this clown got parachuted in. What we’re the…

  11. He’s a proper bastard Martinez isn’t he. I’m kind of glad he’s no longer at Arsenal. No class whatsoever.

  12. Argentina won second trophy because of Emi Martinez.
F… the generational n use the turd P to do it

  13. It’s fitting I suppose that the last hosts of a seriously dodgy political WC in 78 won this one. Another nail in the game’s coffin.

  14. I’m glad it’s done. The whole thing brought a lump of sick to my throat. Back to real football soon.

  15. Likewise K’Phobe, I’m happy it’s over but just to add insult to injury the Boxing day game is 3am for us in Thailand so I’ll only get the highlights a few hours later. My DVD recorder has finally given up the ghost after 12 years, which I suppose is good really.

Finding a replacement is proving difficult to find a DVD record – plenty of players to be had. So far every one I’ve found is in a country that doesn’t ship to Thailand.

The joys of living in paradise.

Sorry to hear about the Cardiff fiasco I guess that situation is never going to change. I just stick to The Arsenal and the teams we are playing as non Arsenal games. That’s enough for junior and me.

As for the final it’s ridiculous the amount of talent France has for at least the next 2 WCs.

Right all eyes on Arteta and Edu then.

  16. From Mirror

โ€œ The man in the middle, Marciniak, himself a former player, has been widely praised for his performance at Lusail Stadium. He awarded three penalties throughout the 120 minutes, but also booked Marcus Thuram for a late dive when he appealed for another spot kick.

L’Equipe, though, has taken great issue with the Pole’s performance. Their editor-in-chief wrote: โ€œThe Pole Szymon Marciniak, experienced Championsโ€™ League referee, did not rise to the occasion, even less so to his job. The penalty awarded on Angel Di Maria was very soft, not too different to the one refused on Marcus Thuram.

“How did Cristian Romero, responsible for so many brutal fouls, finish the match without a yellow card? How did Mr Marciniak not book the Argentinians when they chopped down counter-attacks through any means necessary, shirt pulls, cynical fouls and bangs? How was Emiliano Martinez able to grab the ball, during the penalty shootout, and throw it far away from [Aurelien] Tchouameni without the official intervening?โ€

Like I pointed out ,two Argentina goals were very iffy. For niceties sake everyone is absolving the referee

  17. Hoopah
Hiya mate. The only thing I’d say in response to that is Argentina is broke and has been for years. AFA hasn’t got a pot to piss in. I’m not ruling it out but given Platini and Macron were both heavily involved in sponsoring Qatar, you could have also imagined case h stuffed envelopes going in the other direction. The refs have been fucking abysmal throughout.

  18. Hi Tony
Just read about it too. He was 63. The obit in today’s Guardian points out how awful his teenage years were. His parents wouldn’t buy him books meaning he couldn’t go to grammar school. And they wouldn’t drive him to train at West Brom after he was offered an apprenticeship there.

My favourite Specials tune was ‘Nite Klub’ from their first album which summed up going out at the time

I won’t dance in a club like this
All the, the girls are sl@gs
And the beer tastes just like piss…

I also liked ‘our lips are sealed’ which came later

  19. I must say that I’m rather skeptical about the chances of MA and Co. getting the requisite amount of business done this window so that we’re in the best position possible to secure a top 3-4 finish…I know that there have been several media outlets who’ve focused heavily on a recent interview when MA appears to address this particular matter, but if you really anaylze what was on offer it sounds eerily familiar to what was being spewed this time last year…I sure wish MA had adopted far more of those early days managerial traits of Wenger, than those of his latter years, as mincing words and/or trying to placate fan concerns with disingenuous babble has been the MO of this organization for far too long…all I want for Xmas is a bold and decisive maneuver or two by this club that shows some real intent…Happy holidays to one and all…Cheers

  20. TRVL
I’m in the skeptical group, too. We will see the club’s ambition by their actions in the impending TW.

We’ll be lucky to see Jesus back before April so that’s a long time for Eddie to be consistent in front of goal, butI don’t see the Hammers being much of a home test or correction “we shouldn’t see” so tomorrow’s game should be a bankable 3 points.

Any predictions should wait for a couple of weeks or so.

Happy Xmas everyone and I hope that the best of whatever you wish for yourselves for 2023 is the least you receive.

  21. Merry Christmas – hope everyone had a good one.

According to reports we’re close to signing Mykhaylo Mudryk – now I don’t know anything about the player beyond he’s 21 and a winger so this is not an attack on the player its just asking question about requirements and how we approach solving them.

We’re also reported to be close to signing a new deal with Martinelli so signing a winger is a strange one unless A) he’s back up, B) going to replace someone or we think the player can actually play up front.

If its A – why the hell are we faffing about on back up with CM needs dealing with. If its B – who? We’re not going to drop Saka. We’re going to move Martinelli up front? Where does that leave Nketiah once Jesus is back and why the hell did we offer him a new contract on ยฃ100k per week plus only a couple of months ago, same if the new guy is going to be a striker.

Of course in all this the other major question is where does it leave ESR?

I’m happy to admit my lack of faith in anything Arteta or Edu do puts me firmly in the sceptical end but for those of us who are members – we’ve got plenty of history to lean on.

  22. Hi Marc
Hope you had a good one mate. And McMazel Tov to you Tony.

4 games ahead of us today. They’ve started well because the cockerel jockeys are 2 nil down to Brentford. Kane is looking fucked and bombed after his wc failure.

I think we should have too much for the โš’๏ธtonight even without the son of god.

  23. Because of the difficulty in spelling and pronunciation of Mykhaylo Mudryk I heard he has been dubbed as Micky Mudflaps. I ๐Ÿ˜† am going to adopt that easier way of posting about him should he be coming to Arsenal.

  24. Marc
    Mmmfmfmdgggghglkkjhgf*fgg

Translation – I’m wearing a gag to prevent repetition of earlier fuck up.

  25. There’s a hero turned villain at the Ems tonight (chihuahua head Wenger) AND a villain turned hero (flappyhandski for letting that second one in).

  26. A come from behind win. Very pleasing. Some terrific performances. Personally, I still thought a win was probable at half time. I don’t think they played badly in the first half.

  27. And cal me unambitious but reaching 40 points all but assures us of staying in the PL and maintaining our top flight longevity record.
