A poor game by our standards, but nothing is lost yet

We have this habit of making our life difficult. We ended up with a score line of 2-2 when it was a home game for us, we had no injuries and everyone was fit to play, we had 60% possession, 13 shots compared to 8 from Bayern, 4 shots on target compared to Bayern’s 2 which they managed to score from.

Short analysis

In the 12th minute, Odegaard clipped the ball behind Bayern defence which Saka received, cut inside and scored from a magnificent strike. White missed a 1v1 with Manuel Neuer only after 4 minutes when Havertz noticed his run and sent a carefully balanced pass. That should have been a goal and we should have had 2-0 lead by now.

Sane created a lot of problems for us. Gabriel took a poor touch and Sane intercepted his pass allowing Gnabry to score one against his former club. It was a mistake from us and Bayern made sure to punish us. Their second goal came from a poor challenge from our best defender Saliba. It was again on Sane who drove forward between our defence and Saliba’s challenge ended up tripping him. Again, a mistake we made and they made sure we paid for it.

We gave away two goals.

Kiwior was having a poor game, so does Rice. Mikel made some changes, brought in Trossard for Martinelli, Jesus for Jorginho around 70 minute mark and it paid off. Trossard scored a brilliant goal after a Bayern throw in was lost to Saka, who feeded Jesus on the box. The game ended with 2-2.

Talking points

Thomas Tuchel. Harry Kane. And Bukayo Saka.

Tuchel in his post match press conference pointed out that were robbed of a penalty. Incident happened when Raya and Gabriel didn’t hear the referee whistle, Raya passed the ball to Gabriel who then picked it up with his hands and took the shot. We do it every game for almost every goal kick. Referee called it a kid’s mistake and he is not going to punish a team in Champions League quarter final for that.

Right Mr Tuchel, it should have been given but what about these 2?

Kane’s feet are on ground, and there is no way he should be sticking his elbow out. You do that when you jump and it make sense. Otherwise, it’s on purpose and should have been a red card.

Neuer took a stride on purpose and retracted back right on time to show the world he is innocent while disbalancing Bukayo in a 1v1 situation. To anyone saying Saka stuck his leg out, let me remind you that game do not happen in frame-by-frame and certainly not in a slow down motion where you have 8 sec for 1 sec to react. It was a penalty and should have been given. I think the referee let it go because of the Gabriel/Raya situation but he should have given it and he would have been right in both the instances.

Someone needs to show these 2 videos to Tuchel and ask his opinion and anger about it!

Take away from the game

We are still in the tie. We go to Allianz Arena and we can beat them. After a while, it’s good to have this feeling that we can manage to win against the likes of Bayern at their own ground. Irrespective of the result, I’m pretty sure boys are going to give their best and we are going to test them. I’m also sure we are playing one of the Madrid/ City in Semifinals.

One other thing to highlight is that, the likes of Kiwior and Rice had a bad game not because they are poor, but because they do not have the experience of playing against a big team, in the quarter finals of Champions League. They will learn and they will get better. We saw what an experienced but injured Partey can do in 10 minutes. Will Saliba has been our best defender and I have seen him make inch-perfect tackles so far, but he gave away a penalty which could have been avoided. There was a lot at stake and the best part of it all is that, we haven’t lost yet.

Right, that’s me done. We are playing Aston Villa on Sunday, and we need to win to keep our chances alive in Premier League. As I said, there is a lot at stake, both domestically and in Europe. You either win or you learn. I am hopeful for both.

  1. TV time restored…. You can’t see the Bin Dippers going goalless but stranger things have happened.

  2. Tony-the chances of Havertz not starting is slim to none…he gives me Chamakh 2010-11 2.0 vibes, but he’s surrounded by a much better team so it’s not so glaring

  3. Pool can’t buy a goal…looks like Palace, who seems to play well in the north-west, could end up doing us a real solid

I am like you -tech has passed me by. I compiled the spec for one of the most successful logistics operating systems but making it work was down to others. Last weekend was ideal when we were with friends – the men had the tv on in his study whilst the women sat chatting about there old teaching days.

  5. it appears as if we’re playing a more attacking lineup than usual…not too dissimilar from the one I wanted against Bayern, minus the fact that Havertz is in, surprise-surprise, and Marts isn’t

  6. Curtis Jones should have had 2 goals for fun and Henderson made a good save in the first half on a great play by Diaz…they’re clearly snake-bitten right now, as I can’t even think of the last time they went scoreless at home for two games running under Klopp…all of that is great news for us

  7. Palace are doing this for Woy. He was detested on Merseyside and now hopefully the team he assembled are going to humiliate them.

  8. with the return of Jota, Allison and TAA, I was a littleconcerned that they were going to be reenergized and go on a run, but it’s a Murphy’s Law clusterfuck for them presently…Mitchell’s save on Salah typifies their evening thus far…sorry about your luck, enjoy 3rd place

  9. wasteful play on Pool’s part, let’s hope we don’t do likewise against Villa

  10. maybe MA wil get it right and have Tross, Jesus and Saka up top, with Havertz reverting back to the midfield…I’m certainly not holding my breath, but I’m hopeful nonetheless

I think they bought Wharton in the winter transfer window from Blackburn.

Not sure how old he is but I’ve always rated Anderson, their centre half.

And I’d take Eze (back) in a shot. Terrific player.

  12. Me too KP. Anderson is a good player and Eze & Olise have wicked skills.

That result should stir up our confidence for Villa.

  13. well my prediction about Pool continuing their slide came true, so maybe I’ll be correct in this regards too lol

  14. glorious Sunday with Arsenal on tap and the Masters to follow…too bad Woods shit the bed on Saturday with a fucking 82…he might be done for good now…maybe it’s time for him to return to the p***y-hunting circuit full-time

  15. Vieira

I’ve made a wax effigy of Havertz and have a selection of molten hot needles ready to go.

Tony – glad you got the reference. It was Smokie wasn’t it? Mediocre Glaswegian pop band? I remember watching a game on telly in the 80s between Millwall and Palace with my mum and she started singing the right words when Millwall started up with who the fuck are Palace? Comedy gold but you had to be in her living room to truly appreciate it!

  16. Tony-looks like I’m two-for-two, at least on paper, as who knows how it will look once things get going

  17. Tross might have got fully concussed…hopefully it’s little more than a good bell-ringing

  18. White’s played admirably at LB, but for someone who was supposed to have an above average right foot, he’s shown very little when it comes to his first touch, stretch passes and attempts on goal

Search for Arsenal v Villa Totalsportek, and the first link will have many links to stream. Can’t link it here unfortunately as streaming is not legal.

    New post guys 😀
