Mikel believes top 4 is still gettable

I’m still celebrating the NLD win on Sunday. It’s always special to beat Spurs and Mourinho. Not only we won, we dominated the game for about 80min, nullified Kane threat and held the nerve in last minutes of game where it went all dodgy.

In post match conference, on being asked whether we can still qualify for Champions League through top 4, Arteta said,

I think while it’s mathematically possible, we’re going to believe and we’re going to give it a go for sure. We know that we have to be extremely consistent to have any chance in the next two or three matches to be very close to them. But we’re going to give it a go and keep trying, going game by game.

We don’t have what you call ‘tough fixtures’ ahead. Sheff United (A), Fulham (H), New Castle (A), West Brom (H), Crystal Palace (A), Brighton (H) could be considered winnable. That’s 18 points out of 18.

West Ham (A), Everton (H) are tricky games with both the teams playing well and sitting above us in the table. On a good day, we will take a win in both of them but it still is a 50-50 affair.

Matches that can be considered tough are Liverpool (H) and Chelsea (A). Liverpool is on the decline recently losing lots of matches and sitting 6th in the table, 5 points ahead of us with one extra match played. We beat them in FA cup, and I have the confidence we can get a point there. Chelsea has totally been transformed after Tuchel took over from Lampard, he has not lost a single match and it would be really a tough one even to get a point.

With some luck and brilliant performance, if we manage to get 6 points out of these 12 available, that’s 24 in total for the season. We are sitting 10th with 41 points. 65 at the end of season may or may not be enough for top 4 qualification, but it makes us a probable candidate.

We still have chance to qualify through Europa where we have 2 away goal lead against Olympiacos in the first leg, but Mikel insisting he don’t want to neglect the Premier League matches and wants to keep trying is a positive approach I would sya. I’m totally with him for not making the same mistake as Emery did, where we lost the qualification by a single win!

What do you think as a Gooner? Should we rather concentrate on Europa or are you hopeful to qualify through top 4 given we have relatively easy run in coming days? Let me know in the comments.
