Paris conquered, Southampton next

The stats and the score line do not match for PSG game. We had only 35% possession but we won 2-0. A goal each from Havertz and Saka in the first half made sure we are picking up our first win in the Champions League. Kai’s header of a Trossard cross was a brilliant one and to beat Donnarumma for it in the box is some achievement. Second goal was Saka and some luck. Saka took a free kick from near the box and couple of Arsenal players tried to get some touch on it but failed. It failed so bad that not one Arsenal player, nor the PSG GK was able to get a touch on it and we got our second goal.

It’s a concern that Mikel had to replace Timber with Kiwior in the second half, we have a partnership developing between our back 4, and the introduction of Calafiori on the left is helping Martinelli. While attacking, we have 2 solid CBs covering our ground and both the fullbacks are part of the attack causing Chaos in the opposition half. They are good, both defensively and in attack, they are fast and they recover back very well. With Zinchenko, we had the problem that he was poor defensively. With Kiwior, we lack the recovery speed and he isn’t that good in attack. Ben White has been phenomenal and he will be part of the team and with proper rotation Mikel can keep everyone happy. But the Timber/Calafiori on either side looks very promising to the way Arteta sets up.

Merino made his debut in Arsenal shirt and the time frame was too small to judge him. We needed him though, that midfield should only have one of the Partey and Rice.

Right, lets get back to Premier League where we are playing Southampton at home tomorrow. It looks to be easy one but when you consider the fact that we dropped 4 points against them last season, it’s NOT. Southampton were relegated at the end of 2022-23 but they made us suffer in both ties. We had 1-1 away in the first leg and shared points again at home in a 3-3 score when we were trailing 3-1 till 85th minute and braces from Odegaard and Saka made sure we didn’t lose at home against a relegation fighting team. They are back in Premier League this season, and we should remember what they did to us.

Are we going to see Nwaneri in the starting line up against Southampton tomorrow? Remains to be seen, but we fans have been waiting for it. There is some excitement when we see an academy player get into the team and perform. Perhaps, Wenger ruined us all when he used to get results with 17-18 year old Wilsheres and Walcotts. Saka is one of the best winger in the world and comes from the very same academy. ESR/Nketiah made name for themselves but fell short for a title winning team; earned us some money while serving for years when needed though. We are in a title challenge and we can’t afford to drop points so playing a youngster gets riskier. There is a learning curve with young guns and that curve sometimes costs you points. Nwaneri’s case is different in the sense that he looks ready and from whatever we have seen of him, he looks to be a part of that team already. Let us see what he does when he gets his ‘game’ and whether he will sort out the Odegaard situation for us.

Right, a short one today. I took my laptop to service centre and got to know I have burnt the RAM. Got it fixed and I don’t have to watch another game on a mobile phone like the PSG one. Hope you have a good Friday and I will back with a match day blog tomorrow.

Cheers.

we’re very fortunate there…as a general rule, Tross is an atrocious defender

really hope we’ll finally get to see a starting 11 that includes Timber, Cala, Merino, Marts and Ode after the break…god I despise these international breaks

  23. The Real Vieira Lynn

this should have been a 6-nil scoreline, but it easily could have been another 3-3 shocker, like late last season

  24. Divyanshu Karan

    Finish with 3-1
I’m very happy after final whistle 😄

I know the square root of fuck all about IT. Maybe something just needed switching on and off again? 😁💻😁

Vieira – your enduring good sense makes me think you’re unlikely to be banished on here even if you tried.

I couldn’t see the game again. Arsenal is slowly becoming a stranger. Sounds like we made very heavy weather of it and that Scumpton could have made it 2-2 at one point. Three points but another underwhelming league performance. We need to have more composure before our luck runs out

    Another muthafucking international break.

KP—much-appreciated…you know exactly how I feel about your indelible contributions…have a good one

  27. Morning all really not much to say about yesterday’s win. What’s more interesting is if Chavs and Villa win today it will mean 4 teams within 3 points of top spot. We thought it would be tight this season, but after 7 games it’s not far off airtight.

My concern is Pool and City look more assured and slicker in their play. They are not levels above us just more cohesive in their play because Pep and Arnie know their best starting selections; unlike El B.

Villa and the Chavs are a bit like us and disjointed at times but Chelsea have plenty of firepower in their ranks with Villa not firing blanks either.

The first half was a shit show with one shot on target purely because of el B’s selections. Nwaneri is the closest thing we have to Ode at the moment who like Calafiri seems to glide over the surface effortlessly albeit not as pacy as we’d want but their other skills in their lockers make up for lack of pace through their football intelligence.

I think Maldini-esque Calafiori could be a good buy and a decent Zinchenko upgrade but he doesn’t really have the pace to be in the final 3rd too often. We don’t need inverters now! We have Rice and Party and Merino, Nwaneri and Ode for the MF. Sell Jorginho in the JW he is surplus to requirements now and a wasteful pull on the wage bill.

Buy an upcoming kid – Tyler Dibling and Bednarek anyone? They impressed me yesterday; not that I’m a yard stick to go by. TRVL DK what dod you think of those 2?

I agree with you the International breaks are boring as fcuk! Fortunately this time I’m flat out for the coming months……

Strange game – all the stats will be firmly in our favour, we for the most part had complete control of the match but by God did we make hard work of what should have been a routine win.

  29. Marc

Interesting game today between Villa and ManU – has Ten Hag reached lose and you’re gone territory yet? He’s close of course the next question is who do they get in to change things they’ve gone through 6 odd managers since Fergie and none of them as been able to get ManU on the right track.

  30. Marc

I’ve seen 2 or 3 occasions where a player has kicked the ball away after the whistle has gone but no yellows have been shown – why does this rule only apply to Arsenal players?

  31. Marc
If I’m not evoking poster’s curse I see Emery maybe adding the final nail into TK’s exit coffin.

Not watching the games but funnily enough both games are currently draws.

All our games seem to have had that – it could go either way – until we ground out the result.

We are not looking like a PL winning team because of poor selections.

    Same shit different day……

  32. Marc

What the fuck kit are the Spud’s wearing?

Amazed it was signed off its green and if you were sat at the back of a large stadium you’d struggle to make the players out its like they’re in fucking camouflage.

  33. Kroenkephobe

You’re right Marc. Terrible kit…but fantastic result after they were 2 up.

  34. Morning all missed the football last night but the 2 draws for Chavs and Villa will do nicely points wise. Although not rightful PL trophy challengers they will take points from the top 6; the type that ruin’s others’ chances like teams have done to us last 3 seasons, especially the last 2.

While Pool and City are not sweeping teams away with easy victories; they look far better than our win-by-any-means topsy turvy set piece goal grabbing points.

7 games in with purple spots and dips in form to come where 5 teams could win the league at this juncture. However, I’ll stick my neck out and though it is impossible to know now, I feel Slot could come in and pick up the trophy at his first attempt because City are without KDB and Rodri where their playing creative levels are down.

I mean Stones being thrown on to win the game for them is right out of duchess Dyche and inventor-of-dark-arts Pulis’s play books – not the football artisan Pep’s tactical genius levels El B copies.

Now we have 2-weeks of complete & utter football boredom and am envious of your local club exploits, KP. Ever thought of doing a KP’s football world podcast?

Finally, KP and others this will give you football anywhere you have the internet: https://privateiptvaccess.com hope it helps to see them live………….

I missed the start of the match switched on with Brighton 1 nil down shortly after the Spud’s scored again so I turned over.

Flicked back later to check the final score just as they were showing a repeat of Welbeck scoring with the scoreboard at 2-2.

The scoreboard then flicked to 3-2. Strangely I didn’t find it in the slightest bit amusing – honest.
