We have rumors flying again about Odegaard not happy at Madrid and wants a move to North London. I personally don’t find it fancy. If it’s a loan move with an option to buy, I’m okay, we can use him to rotate with ESR or cover for him in any unfortunate injury. But if you gonna spend 50m for someone not elite in his position and who will compete with a homegrown 19-year old player, is he worth the money?
I like the sound of Madison coming to Arsenal, he is a definite starter, proven in Premier League and do not really block the ESR development.
Odegaard spent half a season with us, played 14 matches and had just 1 Goal and 2 assists. That amounts to 866 minutes per goal. He had 3 shots on target and created just one big chances in this run of games.
If you find it any attractive, let me tell you what Emile Smith Rowe’s stats says. ESR had 2 goals and 4 assists in 20 matches, 724 minutes per goal, 6 shots on target and created 4 big chances. It should have been much better had he played as #10 and wasn’t shifted out wide to accommodate Ode.
Both of them plays the same position, and Arteta had to shift ESR wide to accommodate Odegaard. This not only stopped ESR to take a free run in the middle, it also hindered the understanding between Saka and ESR.
If you say ESR is injury prone and we need someone to rotate with him as #10, it’s a fair suggestion. But spending a whooping 50million on a player who can’t make Madrid bench and didn’t really improve us in half a season is something I don’t understand.
30m? Why not. But with that amount of money, I would probably try to bring Aouar + Bissouma or land Madison. Madison is a proven player, experienced and prefers to play as #8.
Whatever I saw of Ode last season, I didn’t find it any exciting than seeing Ceballos in his first match against Burnley. We need to stop spending huge money on players who *may or may not* improve us. It should be a definite yes! If Arteta fancies him, bring him IN and go on to challenge title this season, I would eat my words but I don’t think that’s happening. Not with Odegaard.
