Matchweek 26 | Against Brentford (A)

Matchweek 26 | Against Brentford (A)

Bad news first, City has been catching up lately and are only 3 points behind us in the table. Though they have played a game more, you don’t want them breathing on your neck.

With years of experience of winning ‘titles’, Pep and his team knows how to handle themselves under pressure. We, on the other hand, have folded 3 seasons in a row and are trying not to repeat it one more time.

Now, the good news – it’s in OUR hand. We win against Brentford today and we will go back to a 6 points lead with only 12 games to play.

We have few injuries but we have enough bench strength to not to worry about it. Both Saka and Odegaard will be assessed before the game. Mikel Merino will be out for some time after his foot injury. Kai Havertz has picked up another injury I’ve heard and is a doubt for next 2 weeks (rumoured).

Back 4 is sorted, but the midfield is going to be a mess for Mikel. Rice and Zubimendi are starters, and he is left with only Eze to fill the spot. His favorites, Merino and Havertz are not available for selection while Odegaard is both out of form and half-fit for the games. Eze – it’s your time to shine man.

If you ask me, I would stick with the usual back 4 with a midfield of Rice + Zubimendi and Eze in an advance role. Madueke and Martinelli on either side with Gyokeres in the middle would be the front 3. You can pick Trossard over Madueke, I wouldn’t complain.

Every game from now onwards is a final. Carabao Cup is a literal one, but with City closing the gap, we have to make sure we don’t drop points in Premier League. We have a game in April against them at their home ground, and we surely won’t want to leave it to beating them at their home to win.

We are in the knockout stage of Champions League after winning all our group stage games. Every game would be a one to win to move forward.

But hey, if you can’t keep your head down for 2 months and beat the likes of City and PSG, you don’t expect to win a trophy.

Right, that’s me done. See you during the game.

Also, it’s sad to see Thomas Frank getting sacked. His Tottenham Legacy lives with us in the form of the cup.

A day closer to life ex-Arteta surely. Even if we win trophies(s) the Kroenkes have to bear performances like that in mind and see the bastard off.

    Once a cunt.
    Always a cunt.

    Hows that fucking dog?

I guarantee even he thinks he is a cunt.

Watch City and Pep bum fuck Arteta to death in the League Cup final now and set up the collapse of our season.

  4. Marc

The Spuddies have appointed what sounds like a complete loon of a manager – they’ll be well up for Sunday and have plenty to fight for.

Could someone get me Luis Enrique on the phone?

No excuses , we allowed Wolves back in the game when we should have finished them off in the opening 20 mins , we were fortunate to go 2 up as it was against the run of play and then again we allowed wolves to get a foothold in the game, the wolves equaliser was a calamity that brought back memories of our last minute defeat to Birmingham in the league cup final when kosielny and schezney cocked it up.
We seemed to run out of legs which was surprising as most of those players who started the game didn’t start v wigan at the weekend.
I’m not sure why Arteta kept timber on as he was running on empty at the finish as was martinelli…..Zubimendi was disappointing again and gyokeres was his usual clueless self..
All I can say is thankfully we have a little cushion at the top but Arteta needs to shake up the starting line up as we looked devoid of creativity and had little or no confidence on the ball, wolves were swarming all over us without creating much but this will go down as an opportunity missed and those 2 points may prove to be crucial at the end of the season .
The draw v brenfrord was a decent point but a point v wolves tonight is nothing to celebrate that’s for sure…

“All I can say is thankfully we have a little cushion at the top ”

We don’t have a cushion at the top. City have a game in hand and we have to go to City – its now in their hands.

Check City’s points tally in the run in over a bunch of seasons. Your chosen one has bottled it again and its not as if you weren’t told repeatedly that he’d do it.

I know I have been saying all season that it is away from home where the league will be won or lost as no ground is easy to pick up 3 points , but last night it was as much as the performance rather than the result that was more worrying .
What I will say is let’s not forget that city let Tottenham come back from 2 down to draw 2-2 earlier this month in very similar circumstances with a performance that was probably worse than Arsenal’s.
I think Arteta needs to look at 2 to 3 players who at the moment give us very little and are possibly running on empty going by our previous 2 league games v brentford and Wolves.
The 2 players are Timber and Zubimendi , I think it’s time to give them a rest for a week or 2 or use them for 20 mins or so as subs as we have the likes of Ben White , Norgaard and Eze who can step in.
Also Gyokeres has been woeful in these games and should be benched as he gives the team nothing , hopefully havertz is close to fitness along with Odegaard.
This performance will quickly be forgotten if we turn up against Tottenham, city are at home to Newcastle who put in a convincing performance in Europe yesterday, the fear is that our performance and result last night will inspire pep and City though I still don’t think they are totally convincing so there will probably be many twists and turns.
Of course there is the possibility that we will implode as the way we conceded the equaliser was schoolboy stuff from 2 of our most reliable players, it did look like we were feeling the pressure as we struggled to put 2 passes together against an average wolves side, and that’s why we need to beat Tottenham the way way city won away to Liverpool recently .
It feels like we have been here before , if the manager and players can’t turn our league form around then of course questions will be asked and in all probability Arteta will make the decision to leave which will please some, unfortunately there are a few on here who would prefer us to lose to Tottenham at the weekend to hasten his departure.

Twice this useless cunt has allowed relegated bound Wolves score last minute equalisers against the team.

I am 100% on Spurs Sunday , I want this cunt out and everyone tainted and associated out win him.
Sadly I would have the dog put down as well, and I am an animal lover, but thats on the cunts conscious not mine.
In ideal world, the club would go fucking bankrupt and we start again.
    From non league.

    Its rotten to the core.

American owned, expensive ticket prices, gormless supporters, and mediocre in every fucking aspect.

I have changed my mind. I will give Win a second chance.
But he will have to change his name.

    Maybe Herbert or Bertie.

and there was Andrew sitting at home , a knock at the door – ah he thought perhaps this will be a nice young stripogram but alas it was several men in blue.

A fourth runner up in the row would truly be generational the invincible’s record would be beaten before this one.

    Arseblog expressed it best:
    We’re up to 99 on the shittingourselves-o-meter.

Hoopah—good article…fuck the notion of doubt creeping in, it’s never left the building

The simple truth is we haven’t been that good this season. How many matches have relied on a set piece / own goal / the opposition falling to pieces?

Rarely do we look like a seriously top team up front, our defence is very good which has covered up a lot of cracks on what goes on ahead of them.

Ultimately last night to me at least it looked like the players knew they were playing for a third rate manager who always bottles it and the weight of knowing that at some point he would of course became a self fulfilling prophecy.

Its not like we haven’t been here before and the excuses will start followed by the rewriting of history where people who have backed the cunt to the hilt suddenly were always sceptical about him.

If the club and owners had any sense they’d start planning his replacement now because if the rumours about Pep standing down at the end of the season are true I guarantee City already have the wheels in motion.

“this match was the first time in Premier League history that the leaders had relinquished a two goal advantage against any opponent in the relegation zone, let alone rock-bottom”

Terrible journalism, typical of the clickbait age. It almost makes it sound as if he was going to be playing for Spuds tomorrow til you get down a few paragraphs. Now that would have been fun. God knows why their shitty club thinks they need a pick me up from Dele Ali, one of the more selfish, volatile and unreliable players of the many that have been signed by Spurs.

Going to be interesting tomorrow. New manager bounce for the cockerel jockeys or Arsenal hitting back after that terrible draw against Wolves?

  17. Marc

    Kroenke

That is not terrible journalism its pure stupidity.

You’ve got to assume the author of the piece is a spud.

Interesting mention on Arseblog yesterday about our forward lines goal and assist output this season.

    Saka 5A 5G
    Trossard 5A 5g
    Martinelli 2A 1G
    Madueke 1A 2G
    Gyokeres 0A 8G
    Jesus 0A 2G
    Havertz 0A 1G

28 of our goals have come from outside of our front line and let’s face it we’re not talking about Ode or Eze scoring loads.

Having other players pitch in is great but our dependence on set pieces and goals from unexpected sources is not a master class in management its fucking Arteta stumbling round in the dark and tripping over a bit of luck.

If Arteta can’t win the PL when he’s “lucky” what the fuck happens when he has a bad season?

  19. Wicksy

    Marc
Will just point out that despite the goals/assists stats you have posted we are 2nd only behind city for goals scored and have the best goal difference in the league, so obviously we have been doing something right.
For what its worth this is how I see the season panning out….we have managed to stay top of the league despite having a striker who can’t trap a bag of cement, jesus has had his moments but doesn’t look the answer as he has lost a bit of zip in his play , so for me I believe we need Havertz back for the remainder of the season as we have missed him the last couple of games.
Havertz and gyokeres looked half decent together but personally I’d rather see gyokeres on the bench as he gives the side very little.
The title run in will be tight , I’m not totally convinced by city , they are very good for the opening period of games and then fade so I do expect them to drop points as I do expect Arsenal to drop points as it is a very toughleague.
    physical and demanding league.
The result today will have a massive influence on the rest of the season and here’s why.
Win today and we are 5 points clear after 3 away games on the bounce, 5 points clear with 10 games to go and 6 of those games are at home, compare that to city and they have 6 games away from home to play and their away form is average at best, winning less than half of their 13 away games, so they will need to see a big improvement on the road if they are to get over the line as Arsenal’s home form is strong, winning 10 out of 13.
Lose or draw today and yes I agree the alarm bells will be ringing as the pressure mounts,.
A lot is being made of our game with city at the etihad but I wouldn’t regard it as the decider as neither city or Arsenal have looked invincible , it is a fact that at the start of the year we were 2 points clear at the top and today we sit 2 points clear , city’s away performances in the run in could be the deciding factor, they still look a little vulnerable and I think Pep is aware of that.
I still think we will win the league if we win today, but I’m not sure we will bounce back if we lose, that’s how important today’s game is .
