Matchday 10 – Time to extend the lead

Matchday 10 – Time to extend the lead

You couldn’t be any happier as an Arsenal fan. Well, there are some caveats but if you look at the overall picture, we are having a heck of a time. We are sitting at the top in Premier League with a 4 point lead to 2nd place Bournemouth and 6 points over Man City whom we can consider the competition. We have 3 wins in 3 games in Champions League, one of them was 4-0 against the Simeone’s side. We qualified for the Quarter Finals in Carabao Cup with a team that started a 15 year old and will face Crystal Palace and not one of the City, Chelsea or Newcastle. Our FA cup run is yet to start, but everything else looks fine so far. In fact, much better than just fine.

However, the road to success will get much tougher as we move forward, other teams will figure out their mess and every game will get decisive. All we need to do, is keep our head cool, perform the best we can, challenge each other for the starting place and prove why you deserved it and we can win something of value finally. We have got some of the best players in Premier League on bench. We have the best defence in the league and the opposition is struggling to put a shot on target. We have 15-year olds challenging Brightonions and we have players that are making history with the 15 minutes they are getting. The hunger is there, the team has fallen 3 years in a row after getting so close to the title and they surely would have that pain in their heart. I am pretty sure they don’t want to feel it again.

Right, lets get back to the game. We are visiting Burnely today, and they aren’t in a very good condition. With only 3 wins in 9 games, they are fighting a relegation battle and the three wins they have were against Wolves, Sunderland and Leeds. We are surely the favorites and a win today will either keep the lead to 6 points against City or Bournemouth can do us a favor by beating them tomorrow. But, in any case, we can’t afford to lose our focus today.

Gabriel Martinelli picked up an injury against Brighton mid week and will not available for today’s game. Mikel is starting Trossard mostly in Premier League anyway so it should be fine. William Saliba remains a doubt after coming off at half time against Palace last weekend but we have Mosquera who can fill in his place. He had one bad game but you can expect that from a 21-year old CB trying to fit in the shoes of the best CB partnership in the world.

I am hoping a back 4 of Timber, Mosquera, Gabriel and Calafiori starting today with Raya back in the goal. Both Rice and Zubimendi are expected to start with Eze playing the no. 10 role. Saka, Gyokeres and Trossard will keep their places.

I am bit sorry for Gyokeres. That lad thought he is coming to Arsenal to bang in couple of goals every game but is being surrounded by 3 defenders every game and is not getting the freedom he was otherwise getting with Sporting. The league’s tougher than anything else and with Arteta’s style of play, where your CF needs to go back in his own penalty box to defend, he will have to work harder to get his name on the scoresheet. However, it’s allowing Saka, Martinelli, Trossard more space on the wings and is ultimately improving our game in the final third so it’s not a bad thing as long as we keep winning.

Also, I hate to be overly dependent on set pieces and winning games 1-0, but 3 points are 3 points. Would I love some David Beckham free kick goals from Eze? Yes. Would I love Gyokeres scoring a hattrick with bicycle kicks? Fucking Yes. Martinelli picking the ball in his own half courtesy to a Raya’s pass and then beating 3 defenders to score a solo goal is a mesmerizing thing, but if you come at me calling the club a set piece club, I would show you the 3 points and the league table. If you happen to be a Liverpool fan, I would also ask you fuck off.

Right, that’s me done. See you during the game.

All eyes on Xhaka for a screamer, lost sight of the other ex. Bless him, there was a time he looked like making it with us.
Damn and blast to no clean sheet.

as predicted Granit picks up a yellow – I wonder what the odds are that he will see red before the games end.

Captain Fuckwit needs to up his tactical game.

We’ve huffed and puffed plenty but we don’t look like scoring. Playing long balls from the back against a defence made up of some serious units when Merino has dropped off is moronic.

As some of us have been saying our reliance on set pieces is not an asset. For those not intelligent to understand that: being a serious threat from set pieces is good – relying on them to such a degree is bad.

With the array of attacking talent in the squad we shouldn’t have to rely on set pieces so often.

Nice finish from Saka but how stupid by the Sunderland player.

If one of ours did that against a top team we’d be going fucking apeshit.

    What a finish.

Sunderland might get somewhere if they have a proper keeper.
Current is the flipping frog of EPL

    Set pieces? What set pieces?

  8. Marc

We’re inviting Sunderland on to us when we don’t have a striker on the pitch.

They’ve given us a serious game tonight and our first goal was down to an unforced error. The question is can they maintain this sort of level.

I refer to my comment at 7.25.

Arteta is a cunt, a massive cunt, a cunt of such epic proportions he makes world class cunts look like normal people, he’s such a cunt if they made a list of the biggest cunts who’d ever lived Arteta would take take the top 17 places.

The big question is if Arteta’s that much of a cunt what does that make the retards who support him?

Stop being such a child Marc. Of course he’s not a cunt.

He may be a manager with recurring issues over how he uses substitutes at times. While it was right to take off Eze, bringing on Mosquera was the wrong call in my view. It invited them on to us. I would have viewed Nwaneri as a better option. He retains the ball so well and rarely loses it,when Sunderland were playing more front footed perhaps we could have done with a bit more control. Of course the question is how he’d manage against their physicality. Take nothing away from Sunderland, they’re a decent team, their position shows that, and they made life hard for us. Also give them.their dues, their attitude was spot on. I haven’t watched them much but from what I’ve read they do it to a lot of teams.

It doesn’t make Arteta a cunt however. The people who support him are in the majority, they not all retards, maybe it’s a lack of proportion on your part.

Off to watch some AFTV and watch some absolute cunts lose their shit over a draw to a decent team. Some might even call for Arteta’s head after this because being top of the table is a sign of a shit manager to them.

    Give me strength

cunt would revert to type and bottle it.

Tough game , I would have settled for a draw at half time .
The game changed when we were 2-1 up and Sunderland brought on 3 forwards and started to press us high up.
We have managed to sustain our winning run despite our crippling injury list but today was a day when we needed the likes of Havertz, martinelli, madueke, odegard and jesus to come off the bench to get us over the line.
I don’t believe it was a day for bringing on the kids as the ref was weak as piss when he came to penalising the use of elbows , heads etc.
Taking off a midfield player (Eze) and replacing him with a defender (Mosquera) was in my opinion a negative move by Arteta as it allowed Sunderland to boss the midfield so ultimately we sat deeper and deeper and had no real pace to relieve the pressure.
Have to say that gyokeres was also missed today as he would have taken all the bumps and bruises as he never shirts a challenge , this game was too physical for Merino especially as he was elbowed in the jaw in the first 5 minutes ….looked deliberate to me.
A draw is not the end of the world after an away trip abroad in the week, their shouldn’t be too much damage at the top of the league with city playing Liverpool tomorrow.
When we have close to a full squad to choose from we will have fantastic options off the bench as we will probably see Arteta ease the fit again players back into the side.

simply-put, our little faux-skipper was outmanaged by the our former bird-loving cunt of a captain…glorious, albeit rare, strike by Tross to put us up 2-1, but our gutless fucktard showed his true colours just in time to provide Sunderland with an opening…if Sunderland weren’t so wasteful with a couple of their grade A chances they just might have taken all 3…good on them for not just parking the bus and hoping for the best…as for our side of the equation, I can’t stand the fact that we employ so many flopping clowns like Merino and Havertz, it’s fucking embarassing to watch(Xhaka clearly thought likewise)…some enjoyable yet oft-times brief posts today guys, including a rather rare AF sighting, but I could have done without those by our resident Apologist and some know-nothing fuckstick who’s 3-0 prediction didn’t age well…I don’t care where they sit in the current standings, that Sunderland side is bang average and we can’t afford to drop points against those kind of clubs…thankfully Pool and City play each other tomorrow

  16. Aitcho

Keep your hair on Vera. Your view of Sunderland being bang average is simplistic. As usual. They’re whete they are in the table because they ain’t. When they beat Chelsea, who are second, they weren’t bang average. Presumably, Chelsea are also bang average and Arteta is a shit manager in first place.
Your opinions lack coherence and can’t be taken seriously, you’re all over the fucking place.
Pipe down with your squeaky voice. The only thing that’s consistent is your continual silliness.

  17. Aitcho

He’s our joint second top scorer. Jeez, you’re so thick.
A 2-2 draw isn’t being ‘out managed’ really is it?

More delusions from our resident know nothing. Two stupid opinions in the same paragraph. 10/10 for efficiency you plum
