Fulham away – weird team selection

Fulham away – weird team selection

I will eat the humble pie after the match if I am wrong, but what in the real world is Mikel doing in team selection? We are playing Fulham away in 30min, team sheet is out and Thomas Partey starts at RB. Gabriel, White, Zinchenko and Calafiori are not even on bench due to injuries but you have Tierney and I am sure he can fill IN as a LB against the likes of Fulham. Thomas is having a great season but putting him at RB puts him at a risk and the midfield is brazen of his skills. Jorginho is filling up in the midfield. Playing Partey at RB also mean we are weaking our right side because Timber is now going to play at LB. I don’t understand this infatuation to have a midfield in defence, I’m sorry. If the idea is to play the game virtually with 3 defenders and allowing Partey to move into the midfield during the play, I don’t understand that as well. You are better off in a 3-4-3 set up if that’s the case.

Martinelli makes way for Leandro Trossard because of his poor form. The games are coming thick and fast and it shouldn’t be a problem, he will get minutes to compete and displace the Belgian. Mikel Merino sits on bench, Jorginho gets to start ahead of him. Gabriel Jesus can’t replace a non-performing Kai Havertz, which tells a lot about him.

We dropped 5 points against Fulham last season, and we certainly would be hoping to do better than that. Manchester City dropped points yesterday, and we could go 4 points ahead of them if we win. We have 3 ex-gooners playing for Fulham, ESR whom we wanted to succeed at Arsenal, Leno – who was also a fan favorite during his time at Arsenal and Alex Iwobi, who is in great form for Fulham this season.

Craven Cottage is a tough place to visit and Fulham is having a good season so far. I don’t see it as an easy game and the likes of Jorgi, Kiwior, Trossard and Havertz would have to show their importance today.

I am expecting a tough game, but hoping we would win 2-0 with Saka and our captain on the scoresheet. I will keep it short today, do let us know if you are happy with the team selection and if it could have been better.

See you in the comments section in 30 min.

  1. Sorry Ambarish agree with your starting selection but isn’t that the case for too many games.

We should get the 3 points.

  2. Hoopah.

Match is on. Arsenal have much better players. ESR is playing central and giving directions how players should deploy. Guess Silva deferred to his better knowledge bof the ” process ” enigma

  3. Fuck me can you believe that. One strike one up for Fulham

  4. Hoopah.

    Goal. Rahul scores

  5. Poor from Kiwior for the goal not to block Iminez off

  6. Marc

Can’t make my mind up if that was a great finish or if Raya could have done a bit better.

  7. Marc,

Great run most likely. Saliba is more to blame than Raya if it comes to that.

    Ambarish

From one angle it looks as if Raya could have got a hand to it if he were a little quicker another less so.

What I really want to know is where the fuck is the yellow away kit?

  9. KP
I think for once I’d want Spuds to beat The Chavs so they lose 3 points

  10. Hoopah.

Think Marcus Silva has drilled players to tackle direct without getting distracted by foot feints. Might get a card , but Fulham players have been winning a lot of tackles

  11. 20 minutes in and no shots on target for us.

When will we change things it’s so repetitively boring

  12. Rice with a CB shot just think had that been Ethan?

  13. We are our usual toothless with the same tactics. But with Rice in midfield what can we expect?

  14. Hoopah.

Havertz instructed to wind up Leno ?
    Arteta shouting out to Kai😂🤣

  15. Marc

Lots of possession with no cutting edge.

    We desperately need a striker.

  16. Ambarish K

I don’t have a good feeling about this game now.. doesn’t look like we are scoring 1 today, let alone 2.

  17. Again Rice being a striker he isn’t. Still no shots on goal

  18. Hoopah.

Leno and Iwobi have improved and become error free. Says what a coach who can coach can do. Leno kicking better and with less hesitation. Also noticed he now catches the ball instead of punching which would land the ball at opponent feet
For ESR , thing is psychological. He has to get over the fear which El B normally instills as part of his domination .
Another takeaway is ,after accolades for set piece prowess all over the Press , Jover looks condemned to see out thi game from a corner he is relegated to.

  19. MA needs to change it up, get Rice out of midfield and replace Jorginho with Ethan. Keep Riced back at 6 to cover for the poor Kiwior.

In a game you get few chances so why use a CD/6 to take those chances?

It just doesn’t make sense. I’ve said before smart coaches will limit Ode space and time on the ball and render him at least 50% less effective.

Partey at RB equally doesn’t work, so why not Timber at RB who is best with Saka, Rice in LCB and Kiwior at LB?

We are losing because of MA’s selection; it’s as simple as that.

  20. Will our stale tactics ever change?

  21. Marc

With Liverpool’s match being called off yesterday we have the chance to close the gap on them.

We lose today and it’ll be another time Arteta’s bottled it when things were in his hands.

  22. Marc

If that isn’t given as offside we’ve got away with one.

  23. Marc

    Ambarish

Its a great thing to have in your armory but we really need to up our goals from other areas.

  24. Hoopah.

just catching up on some interesting reading…bean counters and number-crunchers have truly won the day, to no one’s advantage but those who needed it the least…as of right now a purge seems far more likely than an eat the rich mandate, unless an organized assault on the next Bilderbergers meeting is in the offing…charge!!!

are they creative enough to score without a set piece??? as of right now the answer is a resounding NO…so far we’ve created close range chances for no one except those who’re least likely to score, like Havertz and Rice…the latter is so convinced of his scoring prowess that he tried to take a first touch crack with his weaker foot when there was space available to do something far more likely…the fact that Ethan can’t find minutes in this blunt instrument of a side speaks volumes about our little Pulis

  28. Marc

I’m sure Jesus will score a league goal one day I just wouldn’t want to bet its today.
