Come on lads, it’s the Derby Day

Come on lads, it’s the Derby Day

Mikel wouldn’t be happy going into the biggest game of season – the North London Derby – after losing the first leg of a Carabao Cup final to Newcastle, crashing out of the FA Cup after a loss to Manchester United (of all), and dropping 2 points to Brighton when we needed a win to close the gap to Liverpool. He would also not be happy with the injuries and certain players’ form. But he knows a comfortable win today against Tottenham would make the fans forget the shite football we are playing and give him some relief. I always have a lot to complain, but not today because of the seriousness of the game and the opposition.

It’s the North London Derby Day!

First, when we had a chance to close the points gap twice this season, we failed to capitalise. In the previous match week, Manchester United restricted Liverpool to a 2-2 draw and it gave us a chance to close 2 point gap to the league leader. We gave it away by succumbing to Brighton. This weekday has been good again for us – Brentford’s 2 late goals made sure City shared points and Forest gave their everything to restrict Liverpool to a draw while Chelsea dropped points against Bournemouth at home. It has, again, come down to us to make the most of it. There’s 7 point difference with 20 games played between us and Liverpool, and winning us today will close the gap a bit.

And, what’s better than a London Derby at Emirates. Ange do not believe in a sit back and we love that as a team. Low blocks are a problem but not the one who likes to play ball.

Arsenal v Tottenham

Well, we haven’t lost to the Spuds at home in 14 years. Ange is having a tough time with only one win in his last 8 games. There are sitting on 13th position in the table, one better than Manchester United and that’s exactly where they belong.

In the team news, we have some set backs (probably for the good, let me be blunt). Saka, White, Nwaneri and Tomi are still not available for today while Calafiori will be judged before the game. Gabriel Jesus will be out for a very long time, and that’s a very bad thing for us – not because he is a star performer but we can’t sell him yet again this year.

I’m hoping a back 4 of Timber, Saliba, Gabriel and MLS (or, Calafiori in case he makes it). We might see a midfield of Partey, Rice and Odegaard with Martinelli, Havertz and Trossard up top.

Coming to the Jesus injury, we should accept that it’s not going to work anymore. He is either injured (unfortunate this time) or in a bad form. I don’t see him winning us more than couple of games in a calendar year so what’s the point. The problem is we can’t move him now, not in this window, not in the next one.

NLD is the most intense game of the season and we are going to miss out best player in Saka. I seriously hope the young blood understand what it means to the supporters and everyone around the club, and we go on to win by 4 goals minimum. We have been on the down slope of confidence after the FA Cup loss, extra time means we would be leggy but today’s not the day to find an excuse. It’s a war and I don’t care if you die for it.

Wrapping up

I’m sorry for not being available recently. Some family obligations and travel made me miss some of our games and I couldn’t post anything. I have returned to my den now and you would be hearing from me a lot more.

See you during the game, and thank you for all the support.

Cheers.

We needed Reiss Nelson. Fucking hell.

Why did these Yankee slags in charge not give Emery as much rope as this current cunt in charge?

    Suppose Emery did not spout
all the corporate bullshit this current cunt does.

Season over, in January, now go and spend another £100 million on defenders and have another go next year. Amateur and

    Cunt.

Arteta’s the only manager who could spend so much money on defender’s, inherit some really good ones, come up short on them and them think spending more money on them when we don’t have a fucking striker.

It fuckin mystifies me , that so called Arsenal supporters think he is any fucking good

He is the worst manager ,I have ever known at the club by a fucking country mile., and that’s going back some.

He has had money, millions of it. unlimited backing and the Yankee owners have clearly paid the media and blogger off to stop the scrutiny of him.

Not only that , he is a total cunt.
I listen to him and think to myself, what the fuck.are you talking about.

For me, our weakness has been in the middle of the pitch in spells during our last 4 home games.
Today we were 2 up and allowed villa to counter us too often with breaks through the centre of the pitch.
If you are leading it is vital for a side to control the game and the tempo and never get caught short in the midfield area, it was always one of wenger’s failings that he would allow Ramsey to go glory hunting when we should have been protecting the midfield.
Today we were defensively weak on paper so they should have been given more protection by the likes of Rice and Merino, for me I would have preferred to see Rice protecting the back 4 especially as we were vulnerable at the back, Rice knows how important it is to plug the holes and stop the danger at source, he is a player who likes the play in front of him but Arteta seems convinced that he is more beneficial higher up the pitch, I’m not convinced.
Unfortunately today could be a pivotal day in the race for the title, Liverpool score a late winner and we concede a late equaliser, it shows how narrow the margins are between success and failure.
Watching Bournemouth today I couldn’t help wonder how Kluivert and semanyo would do playing up front for Arsenal as they are dynamic.
There are certainly better offensive players around if we are in the market.

Better still – we should take the manager from Bournemouth. His team and his set up screwed an in form Newcastle today – they would have destroyed us as well.

  7. Morning all
Watched the game this morning and seems I was right to call it a draw. That’s a first in a long time for my predictions.

We have been playing the same tactics forever for MA. We press hard for 30 minutes to try to get in front, then we score and leak goals in the 2nd half when our energy levels are running low and towards the end of the games we’re running on fumes.

    Wash rinse repeat.

Madhu is right we want Marts playing 9. Tross can deliver from the LW and Sterling should be doing want he was loaned to do only MA was the only idiot to not see Sterling is a busted flush and why he was unceremoniously dropped by the Chavs.

Skelly can be our LB for the next decade but we all knew than before MA and we’re calling g for his inclusions as we were for Ethan. Sadly, Skelly will be the the next player to be Artetarised.

Havertz is Havertz and undroppable – what you see is what you get and always got at the Chavs, too. It would surprise me to see MA put in a bid for Werner another Chav’s flop – long may he stay in their squad.

Was anyone feeling embarrassed who MA berated the ref’s assistant over a throw in decision, and got a yellow for it . Then, the cnut flew at Emery as if MA is fit to clean Emery’s boots having won ‘Fcuk All’ compared to Emery’s many trophies including European cups.

MA has the covid FA cup, and a charity shield that is marginally better than the Spuds last 5 seasons.

Good to see your balanced post Wicksy. We’ve been saying here that we need a quality 8. Rice is a 6 nothing more. Merino is 18th best as an 8, says it all really about MA and recruitment: the man is clueless with £800m blown on an unbalanced squad.

Since early LIR days, TRVL and I plus others here have been crying out posting we need an 8 & 9 and back up for Ode. MA seems to think we need defenders and then we keep giving away leads in the 2nd half of too many games.

The PL was over before Xmas in early December. MA had to change things up back then, but didn’t so this season’s capitulation started in late November.

A first for MA as the last 3 seasons we were challenging until around early March before the wheels came off because MA can’t manage transfer windows.

After watching how poor Newcastle were against the excellent B’mouth, I would worry for the next time we play Andoni Iraola’s side, as I think Semanyo & Kluivert and co will run us ragged. However, conversely we should be able to over turn a 2-goal deficit at Newcastle.

We just have to wait for KSE and Mr Lewes to wake up and smell the coffee and realise as AF says MA is a fraud manager with too many issues to be successful.

MA said in the mail that something was missing in our attack. An elite 8 & 9 has been glaringly obvious to all but MA who is supposed to be generational.

A simple question here. Should what a manager says in the press be meaningful and insightful with footballing explanations?

So, the opposite to what MA says and regurgitates – it’s the ball, the VAR, injuries and everyone’s else’s fault but MA’s as a last resort his throws his players under the bus because they didn’t implement his game plan.

We run out of every is all in most games.

It was a match that had it’s moments, but you could definitely tell that neither side had their preferred 11…Mings played well, or at least better than expected, but they left some considerable holes that we should have exploited more, especially once Onana was lost to injury…let’s not forget his replacement had never played a full 90 for Villa and had only seen the pitch on 4 occasions all season…this is where the whole Rice experiment cost us 2 points

now it’s not like Rice didn’t put in a shift, but once Lamare Bogarde came on Ode not Rice should have been pulling the strings on the right side…Rice should have sat deeper as a true 6, which is why we paid him the big bucks…in turn this would have allowed Timber to sit a bit wider, so as to maintain some lane integrity when Villa countered and Partey was out of position…or MA could have simply switched things up by having Partey sit back, as wider sitting RCB, with Rice just ahead on his left, and allowed Timber to act as a wingback on occasion…to further complicate matters, with Rice being deployed as an attacking-first midfielder it required Meriono to assume a more B2B role, which isn’t really something he excels at…he’s a somewhat serviceable 8 but a bang average 6, which is why Zubi was the one MA truly coveted yet he bought Merino anyways..simply put Rice should have resumed his duties as our primary DM, as this would have not only provided us with the necessary formational balance with a 2 goal lead, it likewise would have made it exceedingly more difficult for Villa to inside/out us on the break

tbh we wasted what was undoubtedly Tross’s best outing, but, even still, when he had a chance to put us ahead he couldn’t finish(even though he might have been offside anyways)…clearly he read my earlier critique about his lack of higher ceiling performances…all joking aside, most top flight LBs wouldn’t get beat 6 or 7 times on Tross’s favoured side before forcing him to his right…regardless Tross wasn’t the only one providing excellent service into the box, as both sides had their fair share of high-end crosses…some of which were converted into goals, like with Tielemans and Havertz, whereas others were needlessly wasted…speaking of Havertz, I’m so over the whole woe is me narrative…it even influenced the supposed objective commentators, who actually called his goal a tidy finish even though it hit the keeper and should have been saved…Emi would be the first to admit that he screwed the pooch on that one…when you continually claim that the sky is purple when it’s clearly blue, it will ultimately undermine everything that’s good within your building…should be an interesting week for MA’s spin doctors and the rumour mill

  9. Madhu

TVRL – we are missing twh real Ode the kind of output we had from him in last season and seasons before. That’s making it even harder. I think he has like 1 goal and 3 assists this season. For the lynchpin of a team.like Arsenal it’s not good enough. His pressing seems to have gone as well. He may not be 100 percent for. Unfortunately we don’t have anyone to work with him or give him.break. we had one gem called ESR who was driven away by MA who has 4 goals and 3 assists in Fulham.
Myles has been excellent he is powerful doesn’t flinch in one on one duels and has an eye for a pass. Complete player and without a negative bone in his body. Watch how he threaded that pass to Tross it was Cesc ok execution and accuracy. He is only 18 and now watch MA completely screw him around with his nonsense JDP. His natural talent and Arsenal way of training in Academy would be killed with MAs negativity. Before long he will be cast away. But what a player at such a young age. He fits in so nicely in the team and a fighter.

  10. Madhu

Injuries are the new reason as to why we drew yesterday. Like villa had full squad and no injuries. This is the list of injured players in villa
    pau Torres
    Carlos Silva
    John MC ginn
    Ross Barkley

You can see the first 3 are starters and you could say they and a make shift central defense pairing. Really pissed off with all the reasons given. This self pity is going to take us nowhere.

  11. Marc

Saka’s injury is actually a blessing.

Its finally showing how limited Arteta is as a manager, he’s been living living off Saka’s ability to pull something out of the hat for a long time.

Having top players is what we all want but several of us on here have complained about our attacking play being lopsided down the right whilst not giving the support to Martinelli who then gets criticised for not producing enough.

  12. Just looking at the PL table and assuming Pool win their game in hand, we are 9 points below Pool and there are only 11 points between us and 10th.

The run in is going to be interesting and MA’s undoing with any luck.

  13. Marc

Spuddies getting an absolute spanking by Everton – 3 nil down and its only half time.

  14. Marc

    Tony

Agreed and we are still struggling with scoring in open play. You look at Havertz’s goal yesterday and Trossards against Tottenham and they should have been kept out by the keeper.

  15. Kroenkephobe

Postecoglu will be riding out of Toffeelandia in about 40 minutes’ time on a massive kangaroo 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘. Thanks for all your analysis of last night’s game on here lads. It was good reading. Arteta has at least proven one thing…Wenger was not the most stubborn manager we’ve ever had.

  16. Kroenkephobe

I hate to sound like a heretic, but I’d swap any success this season to see spuds relegated. Prayer mats out for that…

I’m a little less depressed than I’d normally be after yesterday’s capitulation because Cardiff absolutely fucked Swansea 3 nil in the South Wales derby. The Cardiff manager, Omer Riza, is an ex Gooner youth player. He got sent off at the end for completely losing the plot. Ooh to, ooh to be….

  17. Marc

Its worth noting that City are only going to be 6 points behind us after today with a record of 3 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses in their last 7 (hardly stella form) and we play them week after next.

Beyond that I can’t see the Fat Aussie Bastard still being in a job for much longer.

  18. Art Fraud

How did we lose to these useless Manchester United slags last week at home and against 10 men?

That is a fucking disgrace and shows mentality that runs
    throughout the club.

Blame the ref, the weather, the water, climate change but not blame the cunt , who gets paid an absolute fortune and bought Havertz and Rice and Co.

Rice was bought to shore up a 2 nil lead at home, right?
    Otherwise why buy the cunt?

And if us silly cunts, think we are winning anything under these owners or managers, think again.

Manchester City have the bollocks. 9 year contract to Haland , they are not going anywhere.

This club needs new owners, new manager and to find some bollocks

  19. Art Fraud

And stop looking like Leeds every time there is a fucking FA Cup match.

  20. The Real Vieira Lynn

One has to only look at how Everton cut the Spur’s backline into pieces in the first half to understand just how pathetic we are in the final third…this is why I take very little solace from our derby win, minus the much-needed 3 points of course

Thanks again Tony for the kind words…I posted that then crashed right after so I didn’t see your response

Madhu—I think it’s a bit more nuanced than that…there’s no doubt that Ode’s injury has played a role, as he was likely pushed into returning before he was at full health and it shows, in that even the most minor of knocks seem to affect him more nowadays, but our tactics have played an even more decisive role…he doesn’t really fit within our newfound bully-ball approach and the opposition knows full-well if they take Ode away we will struggle to unlock defences from open play…now he hasn’t helped himself in front of goal, but I never expect much from him in that regards, as he’s a bang average finisher…that’s why I still can’t figure out why he doesn’t either rotate sides on occasion or play more centrally, especially with Saka out, as I don’t think it’s necessary to deploy him on his preferred shooting side, it’s not like he’s fucking Robben

let’s face it, our whole tactical scheme is predicated on 3 individuals, Saka, Havertz and Rice…two of whom don’t have a world-class offensive bone in their bodies and the other is out for an extended period…I dare anyone to find a manager who would or has done likewise…MA makes Simeone seem insanely aggressive…in fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Athletico was MA’s inspriation for his tactical pursuits this season(with a dash of fucking Sociedad of course)…that said, if we were to find a complimentary piece to play opposite of Ode, it would open things up on both sides of the backline, as neither Rice nor Havertz are pulling defenders away…the only people who should be ecstatic about our recruitment strategy and subsequent tactically approach is our opposition week-in and week-out and Haaland, who’s agent undoubtedly used Havertz as a comp for his newly determined 600,000/week wages…based on that comparison his agent might of sold his client short

  21. The Real Vieira Lynn

AF—maybe you didn’t see MA’s quotes following our United defeat, but the issue was clearly the BALL…nothing more, nothing less…I for one totally agree with this very commonsensical explanation and I would strongly suggest that we start a petition asap so we can overturn that result and secure ourselves a totally justified redo…what a fucking twat of a manager…the fact that he actually said that out loud suggests that he’s been so catered to and coddled here that he’s completely lost any sense of reality…this is what makes cult of personality management models so problematic, especially if you get it all wrong…this club acts as if Wenger’s grow on trees

  22. The Real Vieira Lynn

    two quick notes:

    (1) to anyone who thinks that there’s no way our managerial midget would have done nothing in this window, even following Saka and GJ’s injury, think again…there’s a reason why he didn’t make a public pronouncement about our intentions until after the Villa match…so when you want to tear a strip out of a fellow fan when he/she suggests that it would be better if we lost, when it came to transfers, think twice before you proceed because that person is probably spot on with their assessment

    (2) there’s a reason why MA hasn’t gone all-in with a world-class striker, besides their refusal to join of course, as he knows full-well that expectations on both himself and his chosen recruits will rise exponentially and they’re totally ill-equipped to meet said expectations…there’s no way anyone of real consequence is coming to a side who’s manager is determined to have Havertz and Rice up top each and every match, unless we overpaid them by some margin, especially considering MA’s mishandling of the Striker position since his first full season in charge

  23. Kroenkephobe

    NORG

I bet last night’s dinner companion made a huge humble pie out of last night’s leftovers.

Our season might not be a rip roaring success but Manure and Spurs have combined to give me some golden moments of schadenfreude.

  24. Good morning all
Great commentary from you all making good reading this morning.

I watched Forest comfortably demolish S’hampton this morning with Forest being up 3:0 by half time, playing simple, yet very effective football with fast counters, with several players who can score from outside the box with consummate ease, if given the space and time, which S’hampton duly obliged. Poor Ramsdale had little chance with all 3 goals landing just inside his right upright scraping the side netting.

Then, Nuno sides do what they do best, as he did with Wolves too often, in almost throwing away the 3 points when S’hampton got a deflected lucky goal, that gave them the impetus to score a 2nd, and make the last 20 minutes including +12 added time into an excellent end to end game to watch, which is why we love the game so much.

Something that also happens to us but we end up dropping points, as we did this weekend.

Even if our players want, MA doesn’t have the footballing nous/IQ to overtake Pool, and where I feel City and Pep have got over their blip with only 6 points to make up to take 2nd place. I don’t see City beating Pool this season to the PL trophy, but 2nd is within their grasp at our expense. Forest, Chavs with maybe B’mouth could very well upset our season leaving us outside the top 4.

Can any of us here say with hand on heart that that is not going to happen? It’s a distinct possibility with the way this season is going with MA riding his luck, living a charmed life, and literally scraping points together in games he had no right taking points from, playing repetitive boring tactics that simply are not working because MA is pandering to his biggest pet’s whimsical notions, that they are the final 3rd players we need to win games with, but reality is as TRVL said: they lose us points.

MA’s tactics and pet selections can never be wrong; so MA has a ready made conveyor belt of excuses, that only make sense to MA with his ludicrous, diatribe pressers, where MA does his utmost best to deflect all blame from himself.

What I find difficult to fathom is why the eclectic Nuno has Forest playing far batter football than us, and being level on points with us, albeit with half our goal difference?

However, we still have to go to Forest Feb 27, then we play Manure, Chavs & Fulham in sequence. No way we take maximum points from those games. We are not going to win all these games against in-form teams playing far better football, where MA continually sets us up to play the same boring controlled – must-not, lose football.

MA is too scared to play fast, counter attacking football, because firstly, Rice, Partey & Merino are too slow with transitions, but equally they have no pace to get back to defend, so MA likes slow build ups with very little end product keeping ridiculously high lines that are perfect for the PL’s counter speedsters to attack.

This season we’ve just been able to take advantage of the PL’s worst defensive serial offenders, such as Spuds and Manure et al.

In 22 games this season we have 44 points, losing an average of 1 point a game.

Does that mean we are going to drop a further 16 points to the end of the season?

If so, forget CL next season.

All we can hope for is that Mr Lewes & KSE are seeing what we are seeing and are asking questions at least privately.

MA will always be Graeme Sounesse’s “Nearly Man” because he is always grabbing at footballs’ straws when decision making, which can be seen over the last 5 years starting with blowing £800m on an unbalanced squad where too many “WHY” can be asked of MA on the following players: Havertz, Merino, Cala, Sterling, Maya (Emi), Tavares, Fabio Vieira, Jorginho, Cedric and others ………

How many other PL managers have a ‘shit transfers’ list’ as bad as that?

The only club that comes to mind is Manure, but they have pre-madonnas more than useless players, bar Anthony of course…..

I don’t see Amorim buying crap leftovers from the Chavs or any team, do you all?

Have a good week fellow Gooners…….

  25. Madhu

Tony – good points and the injury list now suggested as the reason we drop points is even more ludicrous. As I highlighted vislla had their best defensive pairing of Torres and Costa out. Thier captain and midfield lynchpin MC Ginn was out as well. So how did they manage to get a point against us. All these stupid reasons touted is a man clutching straws and knows that he has made bad decision in TW and now is facing the consequences. But he is too proud and egoistic to make amends and get in some fresh thinking. He had Edu removed and now the sole power center in all football matters. It boggles my mind to think that the club hierarchy is so naive to install a novice as a power center with nobody to challenge his actions. I don’t see how anyone can justify that.
