City v Arsenal – matchday blog

City v Arsenal – matchday blog

A draw at this point of time will do.

Mikel picked up a 4-4-2 today, Calafiori and Timber on either side of defensive line, Declan Rice and Partey anchoring the midfield with Martinelli and Saka on the wings. Trossard and Havertz lead the line.

We are 20 minutes into the match and Haaland has already scored one and Gundogan could have scored 2 more on any other day. City are fearless today, they have started a perfect game today and we are struggling in front of the best team in Premier league. And they are without their best player in De Bruyne.

WE need to re-group, start pressing and shed some of that fear. Thomas Partey is looking a bit lively but we need 10 more lively players on the pitch.

There’s still 70 odd minutes to go. Lets work towards a point at least.

  1. This could be the moment we needed. Rodri out, no KDB, lets regroup.

Calafiori bringing us back in the game. They were waiting for me to post eh?

Right. Now let’s go and get those 3 points.

KP—my father, who might be best described as the Lemmy of Crooners, used to sing that song when I was a child…hopefully that won’t be too triggering for me lol

  4. Kroenkephobe

Lemmy of crooners….the ace of spades sung to an easy listening beat . Perfect

  5. Now, lets go out and get the third one… COYG

New post is out guys 😀

  6. Kroenkephobe

Jover gets another win bonus. Terrific goal

  7. These fuckers getting paid via hawala in oil money. Wankers

  8. Marc

What was Trossard doing – makes a foul when already on a yellow and then kicks the ball away.

You’re just giving the ref justification to make a decision.

  9. Hoopah.

Tossard seed red and Arteta gives him a hug going out.
Now 2nd half. I missed the first half ,shit

  10. Kroenkephobe

Feels like a rigged game when that sort of refereeing bullshit happens. Oliver needs to take stock of the fact that there was no malice nor intention in Tross’s challenge. Fucking mad

  11. Marc

That was very foolish of Trossard. Most likely going to cost us the match.

    Hoopah,

Can understand, a sunday evening 9 PM match.

  12. The Real Vieira Lynn

just like our manager, our players have a difficult time reading a room…Tross offered up two totally unnecessary acts in that equation, first the obvious contact from behind then the time wasting…surely MA must have had a talk with everyone following what transpired with Rice a few games back

  13. KP, yep no intention in that. And if it was for kicking the ball away, the ref let Doku get away with that literally 10min back.

  14. Marc

    Kroenke

I think the yellow was for kicking the ball away – it is a booking but how often do you see players for other teams given leeway on a 2nd yellow?

  15. Calafiori is having a good game and Timber is solid at RB keeping Doku quiet. Who’d a thought playing them in their natural positions they play to their best? Shocker!

  16. The Real Vieira Lynn

I will say this though, we showed some real intent at times, minus our rather wonky opening minutes…if you can’t have a go without KDB and Rodri on the pitch, when can you…sadly, Tross’s actions will likely lead to some changes on the pitch from both a tactical and personnel perspective

  17. Ambarish K

Mikel will earn me some respect if he brings on Kiwior, Jorginho, and White and go full Mourinho.

Get a dirty win. 10v11 is very difficult against City.

  18. It’s going to be a long 45 minutes with 10 men against City.m There will be more cards as we tire with rash challenges.

Got to really keep our cool and subs made when players drop their focus levels.

The 2nd half is going to be attack v defense. Our goals again have come from set pieces. We can’t score from open play. Gabs will be double teamed from now on at corners and wide set pieces.

  19. The Real Vieira Lynn

regardless of the outcome, it’s comforting knowing that MA actually packed his balls on this away trip to City…that bodes well moving forward…just wish we had properly redressed our Striker issues, then started the season with Cala out left and Timber in his preferred position…I think if we had done this we would be a bona fide top 5 club in Europe with the chance to climb higher by season’s end

  20. Ambarish K

    Tony

I would love that, even if it means Ben White, a 50m player sits on bench.

  21. Marc

Has Havertz touched the ball in any context other than it bouncing off him?

  22. The Real Vieira Lynn

Ambarish—respect for that? he does that manuever all the f’ing time…I would be more impressed if he didn’t go full Jose and keep some speed up top for the purposes of countering with pace when the opportunity arises

  23. Ambarish K

    Marc

Well, he can make some space for Jorginho.

  24. When I get older I hope El B is long gone or I’ll need a fcuking camode for games like this.

  25. Ambarish K

    TRVL

He does that with Saka and Martinelli. I am asking for 7 defenders on the pitch. Not gonna happen and sounds like a FIFA thing, but a win is a win.

  26. The Real Vieira Lynn

the experiment is officially over…now back to your regularly scheduled programming

  27. Marc

Sky have just re-shown the Doku incident – if ones a booking so’s the other.

  28. Ambarish K

Ben White is ON for Saka.

  29. Kroenkephobe

Oliver’s successfully secured an upgrade on his flight and hotel for his next visit to the UAE. Fucking twat

  30. The Real Vieira Lynn

Marc—I think it’s more about the fact that Tross double-dipped with the back elbowing and the time wasting…tough to have your cake and eat it too when you’re already on a yellow

  31. Hoopah.

Regarding the set piece goal , the technique was Martinelli obstructed goalkeeper from moving right and goalkeeper crumbled on the ground to draw a foul. Jover realises Big Gabriel is best header so the rest move around to provide space to Gabriel to head in.

    Gyan from replay

  32. Marc

    TRVL

VAR have confirmed the card was for delaying the kickoff.

  33. Marc

Almost 8 players in a line there – we can’t drop so deep it just allows the ball to drop onrushing players.

  34. Yeah, VAR should also confirm why Doku didn’t get one. Twats in the VAR room as well

  35. This 5-4 set up might do us a favor, Pep would have not prepared that.

  36. The assistant on the far side is going to eat some of that Cake too.
