Champions League Night – Arsenal v Sevilla

Champions League Night – Arsenal v Sevilla

A lot has happened. We lost our invincible streak against Newcastle, where the referee somehow managed to fuck up 3 times in one decision. The ball was out of play judging by the ‘only angle available’, Gabriel was pushed with both hands with ‘only angle available’ and the offside wasn’t even shown on TV here. Sky Sports and Gary Neville are trying their best to counter it, and I understand the motive of Garry because he is an old c*nt who hates Arsenal but no idea what Sky has to do with it.

Anyways, our neighbours followed our loss with one of theirs, where they ended up with 9 players on the pitch and played such a high line even Jackson from Chelsea scored a hattrick. And they are getting applauded for that, I have no idea why because I have seen the likes of Klopp switching back to a defensive unit and parking the bus after a man down.

But, Champions League night is returning to Emirates today, where we play Sevilla and a comfortable win will make us forget the cheating that happened in our last game. Hopefully.

In the team news, Gabriel Jesus, ESR and Partey will be unavailable for quite some time, Odegaard will be assessed before the game and going by the rumours, even Nketiah might not make it today. It’s going to be new faces in starting line up, Havertz might get a chance at CF or Trossard, Vieira might get a Champions League start today. Key here is to play the best playing XI available, win and wrap the group stages from our end. We have lots of game coming, and qualifying for round 16 today will make sure we can rotate more.

Me personally, I would love to see a back 4 of White, Saliba, Gabriel and Tomiyasu with Raya in the nets. In the midfield, let Rice handle the defensive work and put Vieira and Havertz on the either side. Saka and Martinelli starts as always on the wings and Trossard up top. If things don’t work out, mix it a bit and move Havertz at CF. After all, we paid 65 million pounds for his versatility innit?

European football is different, we saw what happens with the likes of Newcastle. They don’t think the way you do, they might not care about possession based football, they can intimidate you physically, they can create chaos everywhere and the strategy of playing from the back might fail altogether. We know we have been poor against low blocks and it remains to be seen if Sevilla plays our game where we can beat them, or bring theirs, and Mikel will be tested. Our home performance hasn’t been good this season and we can improve it tonight.

It might not be a do or die situation from CL qualification to next round, but anything but a win today will have a dent to our confidence. Two successive losses can be brutal. The fight in Premier League is heating up, Champions League games have started becoming more important and we have already lost to West Ham (poorly) in one other Carabao Cup.

Lets get the job done boys, score 3 and keep a clean sheet, and lets get back to the winning track. Right, a very short one today. Hope you have a good one!

Havertz is so fucking pathetic he can’t even square up a silver platter header with no one defending him

  2. Ambarish K

I have never seen a poorer header in my life. Sevilla is up for taking though, we need to tighten things up.

  3. The Real Vieira Lynn

Why the fuck aren’t we just running everything through Marts, as he’s been sailing past Sevilla’s backline thus far

  4. The Real Vieira Lynn

we’had best not be relying on the kindness of the officials considering our MIT’s propensity to publicly embarass their PL brethren…the same thing happened under Wenger, during his latter years,, when he continually blamed the refs for this, that and the other

  5. Trossard at CF is probably a better option than Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus.

  6. The Real Vieira Lynn

thank fucking God, as we needed to get something on the board considering how poorly Sevilla’s defending has been…good pass by Jorginho, followed by a decisive and unselfish pass by Saka, which left Tross with little to do but pass the ball into the back of the net

  7. The Real Vieira Lynn

Ambarish-that’s quite a recency biased take…Tross is too small to be a proper Striker, which is why he seems to be playing along side Havertz…were almost in a 4-2-2-2 or a 4-2-4…if it weren’t for our poor man’s German Welbeck, we should be up a couple, as Marts has been providing grade A opportunities in the box all match long

  8. The Real Vieira Lynn

It could be a tale of two halves, but so far it appears almost as if Sevilla is playing not to advance in this tournament…I’ve rarely seen less intent going forward in all my years

  9. Ambarish K

TRVL take a look at the United game if you haven’t. Proper chaos, lovin’ it more than ours today.

  10. The Real Vieira Lynn

they’re a shit show off the pitch and until they resolve their ownership issues they will likely struggle on the pitch…they were sitting pretty until Rashford got reckless with his feet…they’ve got too many players on their roster who can’t handle Hag’s old school way of managing, like the aforementioned Rashford, Sancho, Antony etc…not to mention they’re rather disjointed midfield and unsettled backline

  11. Ambarish K

    Havertz missing another one.

  12. The Real Vieira Lynn

Ambarish-at least for a brief second he looked like an actual footballer…the most astounding part was that he appeared truly surprised by the fact that it didn’t go in…talk about a glaring lack of self-awareness

  13. The Real Vieira Lynn

we should stop fucking around in our own end, as it’s the only time they appear to display even a modicum of intent

  14. The Real Vieira Lynn

there’s no way that MA had encouraged our players to invite pressure so we could expose them on the counter, as few teams have less directness in their attack than ours…regardless, good on Saka for both a tidy finish and for creating a far more palatable scoreline

  15. The Real Vieira Lynn

we should be subbing off Havertz and letting one of our more youthful options to get some much-needed valuable minutes…after all, it’s not like there would ever be any sort of dropoff

  16. The Real Vieira Lynn

instead it’s Marts and Tross who go off and somehow MA’s bestie is still on the fucking pitch

Some great performances there tonight. Special mentions to Alpha-tross and Martinelli but everyone on form against Sevilla who were supine. Pleasing after the last two tettyshitshows.

Manure pegged back to 3-3. Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen.

Looks like it may only be us and City advancing to knock out stages. Oh dear what a shame!

  20. Hey guys
Watched the game this afternoon not knowing the score and happy for the win but the flaws are there and this was a very damage limitation Savills performance.

Against slow teams Jorghino has time for his slide rule passes and Saka wasn’t double teamed nor Martinelli.

Burnley at home will only be marginally better than Sevilla, so bagging 3 points shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m working on building a Triple brand association with household names that has a lot of moving parts at the moment, so football has been relegated for the short term and midweek games are too late for me when I have to be alert the next day.

It’s hard to tell from a performance where we rarely got out of 3rd gear because the opposition was gutless, just turning up for their pay packet.

That was my take; I checked the score after the 2nd goal and got on with my project. I haven’t felt like this since Wenger’s last half dozen years, but this is what Arteta’s football does to me. Junior has had a massive fall off of interest because of Arteta.

I don’t see much change of movement of the PL table at the weekend as I see wins for City, Pool, Brighton, Newcastle and Villa. Can Manure beat mighty Luton? We’ll see how Ange gets his Spuds firing again against Wolves at home. A draw maybe?

Hope you had an enjoyable break, Ambarish.

That’s where you lost me, Ambarish. 🥴 Have a word young man you’re better than that😱

You must have thought WTF for that missed free header and empty goal as well as Havertz seeing the flight of the ball all the way. In the first minute and he was no better for the rest of his game.

Havertz looks like someone has him on radio control because his misses all look Mr Bean like and then he crumbles. Stick some string on Vieira on a windy day and fly him like a kite. He spends more time airborne than actually being useful with the ball.

Both welcome donated penalties like winning the Euro lottery.

Welcome to the world of Arteta football La La land.

I’ll say this, though, if Spuds can get to a CL final under Poch, shouldn’t Arteta be able to?

Women play better than Havertz and are stronger than Vieira is my take on that pair and should be gone in Jan with Zinchenko. Get the young Forest LB with Kiwior and Tomi & Timber for RB.

That’s the back line sorted for the next 5 to 10 years.

Tony—totally agree with your assessment…that said, considering Sevilla’s apparent CL tanking strategy, I would have put the headless chicken, Havertz, up top, then had Tross and Vieira on either side of Rice, just to see what the latter could do in the Ode role…it’s clear that he doesn’t have the pace or physicality to play in the Marts or Saka roles, so why not give him a chance to create and/or shoot from distance…I certainly have exceedingly little faith in his ability to rise to the occasion but why not have a looksee against a totally toothless side like Sevilla…the fact remains the more that Jorginho sees the pitch as a starter the more likely this becomes a regular gig, which will be to our detriment against any team of consequence, minus the odd stretch pass, like in yesterday’s affair…Cheers
