Brentford v Arsenal – Are we prepared?

Premier League is back and we are playing Brentford tomorrow at Griffin Park. We have not played Brentford since 1947 and they have been promoted to PL for the first time in modern era of the league. Exciting times for them, but should we be equally excited?

Of course yes! We are into a new season and al though things do no look good for us, there is no space for negativity in life. We have couple of addition to our playing XI, Ben White is definitely a starter and we could see Sambi playing in absence of Thomas.

The only worry is it’s Friday the 13th.

Where are we with transfers?

We have Ben White coming in from Brighton. He looked pretty decent in pre-season and for sure going to uplift our playing from the back system. Tavares is an understudy to Tierney who is a bit of injury prone, and we required a back up just in case. He loves going forward and is one for the future. Sambi was brought in, in place of Ceballos. From whatever I have seen him, he likes going forward and though it’s too early for him to be burdened with expectations, he could be a good partner to Partey.

Worrying news is, we still don’t have a CAM. Since Partey is injured, our midfield goes back to Xhaka and Elneny partnership, which has never worked out. We needed an addition there in Aouar, Madisson and Bissouma but we still don’t have one. We are playing Chelsea and City in our 2nd and 3rd game, which is a big concern with that midfield.

We still don’t have a back GK and we are an injury away to play Runarson or a 19-year old academy player. Our Right Back is crap, Bellerin wanted to leave but there is no interest for him and we don’t have money to find an upgrade without a sell.

What can we expect tomorrow?

My guess is we would see a Xhaka and Elneny partnership, with our usual back 4 – Bellerin, White, Mari and Tierney. In the 4-2-3-1 system, we would have ESR in the middle, Auba on left and Saka on the RW. Laca will be playing as our CF. Bar the midfield, it’s an exciting line up and with Saka back in ground, it’s going to be fun to watch.

If you ask me, I will start Sambi along with Xhaka. Those back and sideways passes do not help much and we need someone to drive forward with the ball. If Martinelli is fit enough, I would prefer him over Auba and cash on his Olympique winning confidence. He looks a threat whenever he plays and it would have been exciting.

Only if we are not selling Willock (I don’t want him to be sold), he could be used as an impact sub whenever we have tired legs.

Regardless, we can expect a fun Friday evening and with hope of grabbing 3 valuable points. This is a make or break season for Mikel and since we are out of Europe, Premier League is the only priority.

Every game matters. Every point matters. Top 4 is a must..for a club like Arsenal.
