Since I last wrote an article here, we have moved a bit closer to the Champions League spot. We managed to win against both Brentford and Wolves and grabbed all 6 points. We are sitting in 5th position with 45 points on the table, having played 3 less games than Manchester United. TOP 4 LOOKS POSSIBLE!
Wolves game was all about bravery and courage – both from players and manager. We went a goal down following a mistake by Gabriel. Wolves has one of the best defense in the league and most of us would have been satisfied with a draw from that stage. However, players kept on fighting till the last minute.
Arteta brought in Pepe and Nketiah, shifting to back 3 and adding firepower to the attack. I loved seeing him being aggressive for a change and showing an intent to win. Nicolas Pepe delivered with a brilliant goal which Nketiah assisted and the game was on from there. Second goal came in the injury time when Lacazette shot was deflected by Wolves Goal Keeper. Everyone went crazy and the celebration showed how much it meant to the players.
Shoutout to Leno, who despite being on bench showed his team spirit and celebrated no less than anyone.
We showed courage, Mikel was brave in substitution and we earned that 3 points. It’s crazy to know that Odegaard did a 12km run in 90min.
End result? A wonderful weekend and we are a bit closer to Champions League! We have only 14 games to play, one game a week with a fit and motivated squad and all we have to do is to win the games we are expected to. Almost everyone else is struggling and it’s our to lose now.
We have to keep that immense work rate going. We must be brave against teams better than us. It’s a young and motivated team who are dreaming of playing and winning in Champions League. Every game is a do or die and lets keep it that way.
Wrapping Up
I’m sorry for not publishing very often. I see some of you visiting the blog probably looking for new content to read and discuss, and I appreciate that. I will try to keep it more frequent.
On a different note, do you see any improvements in the writing or blog’s layout?
Hey mb, unfortunately blog layouts, indeed anything technical like that, not really my thing. But I really enjoy your writing style. It is very fresh, honest and natural. Genuinely feels like I’m listening to a mate I a bar when I read it so fair play to you, that’s not easy to achieve. I wish I had some advice to offer you on how to build up your readership, it seems a difficult thing to do,but I’d imagine that persistence and patience will be required. Most of all you have to offer people good content and allow open debate, can’t see either of them being a problem for you. Keep it going,I’ll drop in more often myself, lately my trips online have been very sporadic but I’ll make an effort in future!
On the footballing front it appears the gods are conspiring to give us a real shot at top 4. Would be wrong not to acknowledge that Arteta has got some things right in the last 6 months, but for me he is not the man to lead us forward, too many flaws in his management style. If he continues to improve I’ll own up to being very wrong. But I’ll call it now and say that in my opinion when we look back at Arteta’s reign this season will have been the highlight. And for a club our size that won’t be good enough. Upward trajectories are only worthwhile if they lead to success. If they taper off before real success is achieved then they were no more than misplaced optimism. Genuinely love to be wrong as that would see us challenging for titles again, but realistically don’t see Arteta taking us beyond a hopeful top 4 team.
Thank you for feedback, Almunia! I hope the font is readable.
I need to be consistency in writing. Sports section is too competitive with almost every big publications covering it but they are into in for money and I’m just proud gooner writing my opinions – I guess that will make London is Red a bit different for readers.
This blog is and will always be open for all point of views, it’s sports and we all tend to keep different perspective. Unless it’s a spu*s follower, who can fuck right off. :))
Some of the things under Arteta made no sense at all. Man management is not his positives, 83rd minutes substitute are useless and pushing an injured player back on the pitch was a disaster.
He has shown some improvements though. Bringing in Pepe and Nketiah showed an intent to win. Project youth is undoubtedly one of the best thing him and Edu are doing.
If he gets us in Champions League this season – which he must, I would eat the humble pie. I’m personally desperate to see us playing in Europe. Universe is conspiring it for us, lads are playing their hearts out and we are seriously in the run. Lets hope for the best.
Mb,
Have to admit that I am naturally cynical anyway,I don’t choose to be but life has taught me to be suspicious. I see the emergence of ESR and Saka and immediately I think of Willian and xhaka etc who were the real foundations that Arteta tried to lay down. I look at Gabriel and I’m reminded that this time last year Arteta was trying to persuade Mustafi to sign a new contract. I look at Martinelli and I’m reminded of sticking stubbornly with a misfiring Auba and Laca, even going so far as to play a false 9 in that I’ll fated euro semi. In short,I look at all our bright lights and I can’t help but conclude that they are emerging by default. ‘Project Youth’ is a myth,a twisting of the truth to reinvent the past. Arsenal are now improving but it is despite, not because of,Arteta.
Mb,
I do have one suggestion,if I were you I’d just allow the comments to register in chronological order as they do on le grove. It can be hard to follow if you try to create different threads of conversations on the one post which is what the’reply’ option is doing.
Thanks Almunia, yes this threaded comments are not looking good and difficult to follow. I will fix that.
You sorted that fast, fair play! The Chelsea story is marvellous. I’ve been waiting 20 years for that club to stop imitating a true football club and return to the gutter from whence it came. God knows how many honours we lost because of their ill gotten riches. They deserve decades in the wilderness for the damage they did to the game by artificially inflating the cost of buying and paying players. If I sound bitter it’s because I am!!!

“In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the Club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the Club, the fans, the employees, as well as the Club’s sponsors and partners.”
“I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid.”
“The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine.”
It’s surely the end of Roman era for Chelsea. And the best part is – there is a huge difference between valuation by him and the buyers if the media reports are true.
